The Lone Madrone Herb Farm provides us the opportunity to showcase our environmentally friendly style of growing herbs, heirloom vegetables, cottage garden flowers and native plants.
Originally created in 1990 as Sycamore Farms the Shomlers developed their 43-acre spread, appealing to gourmets and gardeners who enjoyed roaming the gardens, and nursery. Following the tragic fire in 2004 that destroyed the tasting room and gift shop, the Shomlers opted to take the opportunity to retire and just enjoy living on their stunning piece of property. Lone Madrone took over the herb garden in February of 2007. The Herb Farm has been reinstated under the knowledgeable and passionate guidance of our garden crew.
Our goal is to restore the nursery to its former glory, we also plan to expand the gardens and plant offerings showing home gardeners and plant enthusiasts how to incorporate herbs into their gardens, their cuisine, and their lifestyle.
We are keyed to sustainability not only when it comes to growing grapes and making wine, it’s the premise that radiates throughout the whole Lone Madrone organization. We’re using organic practices and guidelines found in sustainable farming to grow our crops and plants.
The nursery offers more then 400 potted plant varieties for purchase along with seasonal fresh cut herbs including basil, tarragon, oregano, thyme, sage, rosemary, and chives. In our tasting room we stock over 75 varieties of certified organic dried herbs and seasonings sourced via fair trade from around the world.
In the Spring of 2008 Lone Madrone Herb Farm will bring back classes on cheese making, soap, candles, herb lotions and saves, cooking with herbs, composting and more.
The gardens are a perfect place to enjoy a picnic lunch with friends and family in the shade of our trees. We welcome garden clubs and are happy to give a tour and discuss herbs.
We hope that you will come and visit us to see for yourselves what a magical garden our hardworking and dedicated staff have created.
